Dan Dos Santos – Red Unicorn Original Painting The original fantasy painting for the Tanith Lee novel, Red Unicorn. A lot of Dan’s early work at smaller sizes was done in this manner with oil on paper mounted to foam core. Rowena worked the same way, as did Dorian Vallejo. Even Boris and Julie sometimes did this. It’s where the artist likes the feel of painting on paper, but prefers the stiffness of board. So they will mount paper to foam core so that they get both. Some artists will do paper on panel, instead, like Donato. The label on the back is Dan’s label – that’s how he labelled his paintings at the time. Canvas measures 18 by 25.5 inches. Condition is excellent and unframed.
