And check out OUR NEWLY LISTED ITEMS. This is an original color cover proof for Detective Comics presents Batman and Batgirl #409, published by DC Comics in March 1971, and featuring cover art by the legendary Neal Adams (who is of course also best-known for his 70’s work on Green Lantern / Green Arrow, Deadman, and the Brave and the Bold). This is a full-color proof of the cover, and features a terrifying image of Batman being threatened with death by a hideously deformed man wielding a sword with a huge sharp blade! The proof has been matted, and the cover proof has been attached to the backing on the matte (seems to be with small archival tape, which could likely be removed). The overall matte measures approximately 11″ by 14 3/4″, and is all set to be framed. The proof has bright colors and is in very good overall condition, but it does have some wear that needs to be noted, as it looks like there was a tape pull at the lower left edge. There is some sticky residue, and it looks like at some point there was tape that pulled off some color and the surface area from the paper. This is NOT a mass-produced print or lithograph, and it is not a piece from a modern reprint. It is a cover proof that was created during the production process for the comic, and used internally by the comic company. This is from the Jack Adler Collection, and a Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) is included. The cover features one of the greatest Batman images Neal Adams ever created, which is truly saying something, as he is responsible for more classic comic book images than can be counted. This is a truly classic piece, and features a defining image from Adams’ classic late 1960’s/early 1970’s run of Silver and Bronze Age covers featuring the Dark Knight. This is a very cool and rare collectible that you will hardly ever get a chance to see. A truly exceptional piece that would look fantastic framed and prominently displayed, and would be a key piece in the collection of any Batman or Adams fan. Please note that this is an authentic piece from the 1970’s, not something made for a later reprint or collection book. We have been told there are reprint production art pieces being listed by other sellers that make them seem to be old and from original printings, even though they are not for example, older production art did not have the words on a separate sheet from the images. Those kinds of things were only done much more recently, using computer technology. We advise buyers to be careful, as there are disreputable sellers tricking many people into believing they are purchasing items that are older and more valuable than what they actually are. Some sellers simply do not state their items are from reprints, while others make very long listings and put a tiny mention about reprints buried deep in the listing, and/or use a hard-to-read font color (like yellow) to prevent buyers from seeing this information. Unfortunately, everything else in the listing the title, pictures of the cover of the comic from the 1st printing, etc. This item is a genuine proof from the’70’s, not something made for a reprint.
