Vintage 1930s painting on cardstock by Walter W. Image is of a raccoon running from hunters along a fence with a full harvest moon, a barren tree, and corn stacks in the background. Painting is a mock-up of what would eventually be the cover for National Sportsman Magazine’s December 1938 issue. Although the painting and cover are not the same, the similarities are strong and the original painting is signed. Magazine features the same hunters and hound dog in the far right, the same barren tree in the background, the corn stacks along the bottom, and more importantly the raccoon set against the full moon. Magazine is also included. Hallmarks: Painting is signed Walter W. Hemenway along lower right. Dimensions: Height 11 1/2″ x Width 8 7/16″. Painting is taped to a thicker piece of cardstock measuring 12 13/16″ High x 10 1/4″ Wide. Condition: Good vintage condition. Painting was probably designed as one of several mock-ups and never intended to be the final product as featured in the magazine. Painting has wear and tack holes to corners and a larger crease to lower left corner. Wear to magazine as well.
