Maguire (August 3, 1921 February 26, 2005). Maguire was a twentieth-century American artist known primarily for his crime noir paperback cover art; he is generally considered one of the greatest in his field. I’m reasonably familiar with Maguire’s work which is why I believe this is c. This is a classic example of the “Maguire Girl” with her chin tilted slightly upward. Examine the sketch carefully, it’s magic to see what he manages to bring alive with a few penciled lines. The sketch is 6″ by 6″ accomplished on heavy art board. Reverse is rough textured and Maguire has signed it there. 100% guaranteed authentic, not just because I have many examples of his autograph, but also because this charming piece of artistry was acquired by me directly from Maguire’s daughter many, many years ago.
