This work comes from a collection of original designs and illustrations by’J. Beale’ who also used the pseudonym Chester fl. To include two original watercolour illustrations for W. Passingham’s’When London Fell'; a science fiction story where vast cracks to appear under London, through which emerge Dinosaurs. Published in The Passing Show 18 September-4 December 1937. An original illustration for H. Wells’s’The Shape of Things to Come,’Build Life With OXO’ (advertising),’Gun-Smoke Cure’, Stone Cody (book cover design for Cassell),’Blackie’s Boys Annual’ (cover design),’Peninsular & Oriental’ (cruise advertising),’ The Flying Scotsman’, an architectural design for’Northcliffe House’ plus a number of other advertising drawings and cartoons for the early 20th century. Beale contributed to many magazines during his career including The Passing Show, The Tatler, Tit bits, The Bystander, The golden Mag, The Crusoe Mag etc. I have included an additional photo showing a large portion of the collection. Also the last few images following this show other examples of J. Beales work used publication. These prints had been cut out of the original contemporary publications and applied to card. This beautifully painted work is in good condition, with a couple of minor surface marks/blemishes, a couple of tiny foxing spots; corners slightly creased.
