It is done on cardboard and we were told by the collector that previously owned it that it came from the artist’s estate. George Petty was perhaps most famous for the “Petty Girl”, a series of pin-up paintings of women done for Esquire from the autumn of 1933 until 1956. This painting came in an Esquire Calendar folder (see second to last photo) which suggests it may have been a “Petty Girl” or preliminary for Esquire calendar art. We do not know whether it was ever published or not, but nevertheless it makes a striking display. An indistinct / smudged signature which looks very much like the distinctive Petty signature is visible in the lower right. There is some creasing visble in the lower quarter of the art work (see images). This might be able to be minimized by an Art conservationist.
