Original Comic Art X-Men 162 Black Printing Plate & Cover Recreation COMBO
Up for sale are 2 very unique items. 1 The actual Black “Key” Printing plate (metal) used for printing the black ink for ALL “Direct market” versions of the cover for Uncanny X-Men #162 back in 1982. 2 A Cover Recreation on Uncanny X-Men #162 done by Bob Wiacek, the original inker on the cover. The printing plates are supposed to be melted down and recycled after each use. It was used by the company World Color Press who handled most of the comic book printing in the 80s (3rd largest printer in North America). He didn’t take many and very few survived over the years. The plate was originally curled in order to fit over a metal bar to roll on the ink. It has been carefully flattened to be framed (frame not included). There was only 1 of these ever made for this version of the cover. I have left 2 adhesive Velcro strips on the back so it can easily be hung in a shadow box with cloth backer. The Cover Recreation was commissioned by Bob Wiacek in 2013 to go along with the Printing Plate and a couple of other items I had that related to this issue. The title and character logo are photocopied but the rest has been drawn and inked by Mr. This issue is the 3rd ever cover appearance of Wolverine and his first solo story. A very significant book in the history of the character. These items make an amazing display in any art collection. Please contact me if you have any questions. The people who signed this book actually worked on, or were responsible for, this issue… All except for Herb Trimpe (co-creator of Wolverine). But to get a Trimpe signature on anything now is lucky. Chris Claremont was the writer, Louise Simonson (or Louise Jones as she was credited on the book) was the Editor and Jim Shooter was the Editor in Chief. If you put all this together as a package with the black plate and the recreation, you have almost every person who worked on the issue… Except for Dave Cockrum, the colourist and the Letterer. Any negotiation on the price will then NOT include the signed book. Please understand that this is an incentive and not part of the listing. The item “Original Comic Art X-Men 162 Black Printing Plate & Cover Recreation COMBO” is in sale since Thursday, November 29, 2018.
