Modeling with Millie #53 – Original Art Cover – Art by Stan Goldberg (Bill Williams). Published February, 1963 by MARVEL. Cover features a nice, large figure of Millie on the right, while Clicker dances with Millie’s new “rival” Gloria, and Chili & Toni look on from beyond. Cover is a feature for the Millie story A Rival for Millie! Which ran in this issue. Large-format (Silver-Age): (22″ x 17″ overall/paper-size;’inner-most-border’ /ink-wireframe-inner span, roughly: 13.25″ x 20″). CONDITION : The cover is in good shape, there is some wear to the paper, but doesn’t affect art. Specifics : top-margin has a’chunk’ out (doesn’t affect art) outside of the ink-borders. The vertical margins appear to have been folded originally by the publisher for mailing/storage (doesn’t affect art). Some correction fluid used, along with artist notes in the margin. The very top of Millie’s head is covered by the title paste-on, but the art was redone on top of it. Stain on bottom margin edge (again, doesn’t affect art). All in all, the piece presently very well despite all of the above – is nice & large & really captures the soap opera/fashion/romance vibe inherent to the title. NOTES ON ARTIST CREDIT. We had acquired this some years ago directly from Stan Goldberg along with some other pieces of his original art. We understood that this piece was penciled and inked by Stan G (as was the case with the other pieces that we got from him) but have seen this cover art tentatively attributed to Bill Williams online.
