The book features original India ink and watercolor artwork on the flyleaf, depicting Babe Ruth after hitting a home run, with a ghostwriter in the background asking, What else Mr. Ruth do you wish to write today? ” Ruth’s humorous reply, “Just tell’em I got hold of a fast one an’ knocked the S. O. B. Over the fence, adds a personal touch. The artwork is signed “For Ralph Alexander with best wishes” and autographed by Christy Walsh, Ruth’s ghostwriter and press agent. The book includes various articles and cartoons by Walsh, highlighting his rise as the first sports super-agent and ghostwriter for famous athletes such as Babe Ruth, John McGraw, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and others. It also contains a detailed account of Walsh’s career, featuring photos of him with legendary baseball players. Walsh’s team included renowned writers such as Ford Frick, Damon Runyon, and Gene Fowler. He would later serve as the sports director of the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair, and publish several works on sports history, including Baseball’s Greatest Lineup.
